fix print spooler service

My computer automatically updated Windows and my Cannon printer is gone. I've tried to load the printer disk, but get a message that I need to do something about the print spooler service. What does this mean and how do I fix this so I can print again?

Start > Run > type in "services.msc" without quotes and enter

Scroll down to find the Print Spooler entry. Right-click it and select Properties. In the new window, set Startup type to Automatic. Click Apply and the OK.

Now right-click the Print Spooler again, and click Start.

Close the whole services window and install the Cannon printer software again.
