On my T61 thinkpad running win7 64bit and Middleton BIOS with 6GB RAM, I could no longer get WEIto run after I replaced the hard drive with a Samsung EVO SSD. This was disappointing to say the least as I wanted to see the drive score!
I ran without the WEI rating for about 6 months until I went into "turn windows features on and off" and removed the tick next to Windows Media Player. Once WMP was disabled I re-ran the WEI successfully and finally got to see the 7.8 for the Samsung EVO 500GB SSD.
I think the issue confusing WEI was that I have VLC as my default player.
I have also verified this fix on a Win7 Ultimate 32bit to get WEI working again.
