I was deciding between an intel bad axe 2 and an EVGA motherboard.

I want to use a E6400 processor. I was told it can go up to 3.2 gig safely (I was thinking of going to 3 gig).

Reading the literature, the intel board with a 975 chip set has a fixed multiplier of 6 (not sure if the evga with 680i is fixed or not).

How can you overclock if the processor multiplier is fixed????

Thanks .... Mike

The maximum multiplier is fixed on this processor, not the motherboard. You increase the CPU clock by raising the FSB. This also increases the clock to the memory and a few other parts.

The new evga 680i allows you to set the multiplier on a 6400. you can use 6x,7x,or8x :)

Currently running mine at 8x with 1300fsb for a speed of 2.6 and all is good. This is on stock air btw, I plan on getting better cooling and will take it further.
