fixing hdd platter to another hdd

I have 1tb segate hdd 64mb cache & 7200rpm but now it's not working.i decided to remove & fix the hdd platter to another working toshiba 1tb hdd has 64mb cache & 7200rpm. I think it will work fine?.your opinion please!

Platter transplants are not a sure thing between two otherwise identical drives since the factory-programmed calibration data varies on a drive-by-drive basis. Data recovery shops that do things like this usually have customized firmware running on the drive so they can tweak those parameters.

The raw platter data format between manufacturers is likely completely different.

Nope your best bet if you had to have the info stored on the drive would have been to send it to a data recover specialist.
They do this in a clean room. HDDs are sealed for a reason. Any bit of dust even on a micro scale would destroy the drive and crash the heads when spun up. Also when if you had a clean room to do this there are specific tools for recovery. You would have also probably wanted to use the same manufacture. You could have possibly had a bad controller which may have been easier to fix but once you open the drive about the only thing they are good for is a paper weight.

Odds of recovering data are extremely low. It will never "work fine" though. Best case is you get some data and have 2 trashed drives. more likely you just have two trashed drives. What your proposing with different drives there is absolutely no chance.
