I 'm attempting to fix my hp dv6500 notebook because it was running slow and freezing. so i did a reinstall using the hp recovery center
which should be a clean install of hp products and the operating system. After this i replaced the antivirus to avast.
I reinstalled all the drivers for windows and HP. physically i cleaned out the fan and replaced battery and keyboard.
Now everything works but it still is slow and freezes on occasion. any possible solutions besides chucking it to the side of the road?

Yes he does mean install windows only.

We use HP laptops here at work and HP loads them up with loads of HP software, that is usually useless. Try installing windows again and this time avoid the HP tools, unles you use them. You may also want to try running the HP hardware check, this will test all your hardware (CPU, RAM, HDD, etc, etc) for any errors.
