My USB 3 ports suddenly stopped working after Windows 7 made be re-enter my product key (after a gpu change). From what I have read, this is a common issue and one that is usually solved by updating or reinstalling the USB driver.

Question, do USB 3 ports use a different driver to USB 2 ports? I can't see anything labeled "USB 3" in the device manager. If USB 3 ports have a different name in device manager, what is it?

If they use the same driver and the USB 2 ports still work, should I assume that drivers are not the issue?

USB3.0 will not work on windows 7 without a driver for usb3.0
The windows install media does not include the usb3.0 driver, causing a catch 22 on installation.

Download the drivers for your motherboard and reinstall them, particularly the usb3.0 drivers.
I do not think you should see anything but USB in device manager.

Thanks.

Do you know why it would lose the driver after Windows demanded that I re-enter the product code? uSB3 worked perfectly before this so I must have had the drivers installed.

I have no clue why windows might have wanted you to re-enter your product code.
Is it possible you have been a victim pf a virus and product code theft?
Or, windows thought your license was not legit.
Sometimes windows will update to what it mistakenly thinks is better drivers.
I turn off driver updates and manage my graphics driver updates myself when I need them.
