Flash player & java software

Solution

If you use Chrome then no, you don't need Flash Player. It is built-in (or rather bundled).

Flash Player is unrelated to PDF files (you're thinking of Adobe Acrobat Reader) and is mainly used for video, animation and games on websites (although it's falling out of favour now that HTML5 is well-established).

Chrome also has a built-in PDF viewer (as does Microsoft Edge) so you don't need Acrobat Reader either.

Thank you, but from what I understand my browser does not need me to add these plugins. But for some reason I had them loaded to my computer but never understood why I had them since I am not a developer of software.

So if the Adobe Flash Player it needed, does it have to be running in the background all the time? Or do I just have it installed to use when ever I need to view a pdf file?

Hello... Typically Flash player is needed for youtube/streaming media viewing... it starts on it own, if the web page calls for it... JAVA was needed in the past for older Web page viewing, but I find it isn't used much now, and is known to be used for adding malware/adware apps into your computer.
You do not need more than one install of FP... just get the latest's FROM Adobe.

As a simple test remove it from your OS and walk about the WEB and see "what you Don't see" any more.

Ok, I'm fine without the Java. But the Adobe Flash Player apparently is already embedded with the Chrom browser. And I don't see any problems viewing videos online or other things. I don't stream videos to my desktop and use Kodi for my CD playing.

I remember needing Adobe for the pdf files I occasionally need to view but that appears to be the only thing I need it for. But this brings me back to a basic "do I need" question for downloading/installing Adobe Flash Player just for PDF files?

Aha...thank you very much for this information. That makes sense...and the fewer "add-ons" I have the better I like it.
