yes yes, here comes another novice nerd that overstepped.

so heres the deal

i got me a bios file that i tried to flash. I downloaded it off the Hp website, its the weirdest thing though..

it showed me my computer, i matched it and everything, im running an a6130n , i believe its an ECS nettle 2 1.0Bver mobo. I downloaded a few drivers and everything was fine, so i went for the BIOS.

When i tried to install the BIOS it said, "you do not meet the minimum requirements, error 9998" which basically says my hardware doesn't match their BIOS software, which made no sense to me. It was my exact model of PC from THEIR website.. the only thing i could think of was that I had windows 8.1 on my computer, however, i was dual booting with Vista, and i was using Vista when i was trying to use that file. And had it been an OS error, the error code would've popped with a different number.

so i googled a bit and i read about a work around that basically bypassed that error. I figured since it was stupid error that i could ignore and once i flashed all would be well with the world but obviously thats not how things played out.

So long story short, heres where im at.

It'll go through POST, detect my hard drive and whatnot. I can get in my BIOS but this version is VERY limited on options. If i let it load, itll complete the POST and then go to a black screen with a flickering cursor that does nothing. I watched it for about 20 minutes do nothing.

What I've considered was trying to make a bootable USB with awdflash and what im certain is to be the correct BIN bios file for my mobo, the problem is, i've gone into the BIOS and tried to change the boot order to my USB, but it doesn't take. It'll go through POST, and go to the black screen and just cursor-flicker all day long.

I don't have a floppy drive. And i've been having some issues making this USB properly bootable (its actually something else ive been fighting with all day) so im not even 100% convinced that the USB is properly formatted to be booted as a primary device, although i did give it a shot on another pc and it appeared to bring me to DOS where i could flash a that BIN file.

I've read other posts where people were instructed to buy a new BIOS chip, but in the scenarios ive read, none of them were able to even access their BIOS. I can access mine, its not dead on startup, it just goes to crap after POST. In the caption at the bottom it doesn't even name the correct model number of my mobo, so im sure somehow i've installed the wrong BIN.

Oh and i've tried removing the CMOS battery for about 10-15 minutes. Didn't help. Once i turned it on again it said some kind of check-sum error, and went back to just infinite cursor flickering.

Any ideas?
Thanks for the help in advance, it looks like a new BIOS chip is about 20 bucks on ebay but lets call that plan C..

Sometimes you not only have to tell the BIOS to boot from a USB, but what kind of device you want the USB to emulate. I've seen options for 1) USB emulating a floppy, 2) USB emulating a optical drive, 3) USB emulating a hard drive. I would pick the later. Also make sure the USB is first on the list. Also try toggling your ATA vs AHCI setting if you can get to it, at least so you can get into DOS.

thanks for chiming in.

I dont appear to have the luxury of those options in my bios. All i can pick is what group to load first, [Floppy Disk group, CD Rom Group, Hard drive group] and then specify a device from each group. My USB was read as a hard drive group, so i set the boot sequence to Hard drive group first, and selected the first device as the USB, and 2nd Device as my actual Hard drive. I set floppy to "not installed" and my second in group sequence is CD rom.

Still though, itll go to the black screen with a flickering cursor. Also, at this point my keyboard locks up. NUMLOCK will automatically come on after post, but then i cant toggle it off. I feel like that was relevant information.
