Flashing BIOS made Windows10 not bootable/installable while using AHCI.

After buying an NVMe SSD and realizing that my motherboard (MSI Z77A-GD65) doesn't support booting from PCIe I decided to follow this guide to attempt a BIOS flash to add the feature I needed.

The flash process was successful, it did not fix the NVMe issue, but more importantly it made it so I can no longer boot or install Windows 10 when using the SATA connections in AHCI mode (works perfectly fine in IDE mode).

I've checked all the registries that I've read about regarding AHCI and they are all set to the correct values, any insight on what might have happened and how I can try to fix these issues?

Thanks.

im not sure what you did.[strike] but how were you able to install windows on your new NVMe drive if you were trying to fix a boot problem in the first place?
[/strike]

scratch that. i guess youre using your nvme drive as your external/secondary drive then.

Hi, I haven't installed anything on my new drive, it's just parked in a PCIe slot using an adapter. I am using windows on my old SSD that is still plugged it.
The problem arose after I flashed my bios, I got a blue screen saying that windows was missing some vital component (error 0xE I believe), after some testing I switched from AHCI to IDE and everything worked perfectly, out of curiosity I went and tried to install windows and not only could I not install it on my new NVMe drive (understandably, I was not very optimistic about the BIOS hack), but now I couldn't even (re)install it on my SSD if running in AHCI mode. Hope this cleared things up.

No it's still in there, you think it might be causing the problem? Everything was working perfectly before I flashed the BIOS, installing the NVMe didn't cause any issues.

Well I'm not giving up yet, some people have been able to successfully mod their BIOS to be able to boot from NVMe on Z77 chipsets. But first I'd like to solve this AHCI issue which might shed some light on what I did wrong in the first place, but I guess I could remove the drive temporarily to see if something changes.

Hi, no actually I'm still waiting to upgrade my rig so I can buy a motherboard that supports nvme ssds natively.

Same here. Until that time I can use it as an applocation fast-load storage.
