Hello there, I am currently facing a situation where the Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5 EATX motherboard that I have is incompatible with my Haswell Refresh core i7-4790k processor. To make the two compatible I need to flash my BIOS to the latest version which is f10. I have been searching for a cheap compatible processor to flash the BIOS and although I have checked Gigabyte's compatibility list of processors for this motherboard I am still not quite sure if the processor that I am looking to get, a Pentium G3430, will work with my motherboard. Can anyone confirm that this processor, or a cheap 4th gen i3 works with this motherboard.

I have considered the option but I am buying the processor along with other components to upgrade cooling in my system, but the processor itself I will be using to do a build for someone so it will be of use to me. Also there are not many computer stores in my area that I have the time to visit.

If this is it you need F9

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz 8MB 350 MHz / 1250 MHz Haswell Refresh 22nm C0 88W 100 F9

And you would need any CPU that says F7

http://www.gigabyte.co.nz/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4487

Since this is the release / first BIOS

And yes the G3430 will let you flash the BIOS. Since it needs F7 for the mobo to support it

Intel Pentium G3430 3.30GHz 3MB 350 MHz / 1100 MHz Haswell 22nm C0 54W 100 F7

Thanks Paul NZ I saw the support list but just wanted to confirm. I called Gigabyte's customer support to ask about my BIOS version, and I was told that it was the f4 version. I found this very confusing as none of the listed processors fit the f4 version, but I assumed that this was simply an error in communication.

lol i think so theres no F4 if thats your mobo in the link I posted. If it was it would work with the 4970K or the G3430. But it doesnt.

BUT usually if it isnt listed, IT WILL work with the CPU you install

Like the ASUS H97M-E I have here. I put the G3240 on it because it wasnt listed on the ASUS site. Which meant it would work out of the box. Which is why I brought the CPU

Thats the one thing I ALWAYS do. Depending on WHAT mobo and CPU I buy. I'll check the site first to what BIOS it needs to support it

If I think it needs a BIOS update, I'll contact the shop and ask them to flash it before they send it

That way I'll know it'll work when I get it
