Hi

I have an xfx r9 280 and a gigabyte r9 280 in crossfire. My question would be is it possible to flash one with the others bios? Also if it is how would that go?

Thanks!

Hello Miazize,

The bios flash would not likely succeed. I dont know for certain they would fail, but i do know for certain they are not reference bios cards and would definately have different Bios settings. If you are having issues with either one, contact the manufacturer to resolve the individual issues. There are no compatibility issues with using Xfire on different manufacturers.

Thanks

It works fine in crossfire but I was just wondering if that is possible. But as I use the xfx card the main gpu and the gigabyte as the second the basic settings are different and I thought the softwares could be tricked especially msi afterburner or gpu-z so it came back as identical. Or better if there was a original, a universal if you will, bios which would work with different brand cards. It is a shame that there is no such thing though. Or we could just buy the plain board without any bios modification or heating and put the water-cooling on it or any aftermarket cooling system.

I know this is too late to answer your question, but maybe it could help someone in the future. I have an EVGA 980Ti and a Gigabyte 980Ti. The EVGA card is reference, but a SC branded card. It out performed my Gigabyte card, due to EVGA tweaking their bios settings a little. I took a copy of both BIOS's of my cards, using GPU-Z, and edited the values of the Gigabyte card to match those in the EVGA BIOS. I then flashed that updated BIOS onto the Gigabyte card, giving me two cards that performed the same. This fixed my issue of being limited on overclocking, due to the Gigabyte card holding the pair back.

This worked because the updated BIOS that I flashed onto the Gigabyte card, was still a Gigabyte BIOS. It was just a modified version of it. Not sure if that would help the folks running AMD cards, as I'm unsure how similar the flashing process, and BIOS editing process is on those cards, but I hope it does help.

You can flash GPU bios with different brands, but you will be lucky to boot up and if you are lucky to boot up then your card will not work properly. tested and confirmed. Use bios for same manufacturer and same model only. But you can mess around of course.

P.S.
ALWAYS MAKE BIOS BACKUP. ORIGINAL.
