Flat panel question

My Sharp 19" Flat Panel has a 2" gray area when it goes into power safe mode? the picture is fine.........is the a Graphis problem or LCD panel problem?
Can I repair it?

It's possible a slight lack of even distribution of the backlighting that doesn't normally show because any missing area is illuminated by a neighbouring light source, but as the lighting is dimmed to save power the localisation becomes more obvious.
