Hi,

I currently have a FlexRaid array that looks like the following.

Data
1 - 2TB Seagate Green drive
1 - 1.5TB Seagate HD

Parity
1 - 2TB Seagate Green drive

.............

I just bought 4, 3TB Western Digital Red drives....

What should I do going forward lol? One of the WD red drives must be a parity because the largest drive has to be a parity drive which leaves me with a 2TB Seagate drive freed up and 3 new red drives.

Should I just take the 2 2TB Seagate drives out along with the 1.5TB and just use the WD reds? Or would it be fine to add the others as well?

I'm not sure what to do. Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Well I am defintely using a software based FlexRaid. From all my research it is 100% the way to go. The real issue is what to do with all the other HD's if I just use the 4 WD drives it would leave me with either.

A) 2x3tb as data so 6TB total , 1 Parity, and 1 spare in case I need to rebuild the raid.

B) 3x3tb as data so 9TB total, 1 Parity, and 0 Spares.

The last option is to use everything with 1 spare.

C) 2x3TB, 2x2TB, 1x1.5TB as data so 11.5TB total, 1 Parity, and 1 spare in case I need to rebuild one of the drives.
