I have an opportunity to buy an 87 III Fluke Digital Multimeter for really cheap (brand new in box, too). Does anyone know if this particular model is good for PC Repair and troubleshooting. I know there are crazy Fluke models with 3" lcds and all the bells and whistles, but I'm looking for one under $400. What are some ideal models of Fluke multimeters for pc repair if the 87III isn't the right one?

Any info/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, TJ

(batman theme)nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah net senddddddd. I ate paste as a child... thermal paste that is.

for the most part you just need to test voltages when diagnosing a computer. you hardly need a 400 dollar multimeter for that.

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

JiHiggs is right, you don't need a $400.00 meter for PC work... Any DMM that can resolve voltages within about 1% is perfectly adequate. There is very little reason to do current or resistence checking (other than continuity) in PC repair. Unless you are getting into Monitor or Power Supply repair you can probably get by quite nicely with one of these:
