FMV skipping

Hello

I currently play TR2 on two computers. One is a laptop. The other a
desktop; both fairly new and running XP. On the desktop the
fmv-sequences are not played. At least, not in the game. This means I
go from level 1 (great wall) straight into level 2(venice) without the
scene that explains why I go there (about Bartolli etc).

On the desktop I have nVidia Gforce FX 5200 and SB Audigy.
Laptop has much lesser quality stuff - Intel Extreme Graphices card.

Can anyone please tell me how I can solve this? TR1 provided me with
the same problem. Also no FMV played.

Greetings,

Ronald

Make sure your graphics card has the latest drivers. Try windows update, or
better, the nividia site for these. Latest drivers mean most support for all
things.

With TR1 you may wish to try using glidos. Although not designed for such a
use, Glidos also enabled the fmvs for TR1 for me as well as enhancing the
graohics no end.

This may sound ridiculous, but try setting the resolution of the game to
the same as the desktop. (or the other way around if the game's too slow
or can't match your desktop)

I'm running a 5200, albeit under WinME, and this was the last thing I
tried (after a slew of other worthless efforts). Much to my surprise it
let me play the FMVs!

No disrespect intended PW-- I don't want to sound like a smart-aleck, but I
thought you liked XP???

Was surprised to read you're running ME then. :)

I'm *still* trying to learn Linux btw, but I might be hopeless. The
graphics program that comes with it is *very* powerful and has a high
learning curve... Wish me luck!

None taken ... but ...

*Where* did you get *that* idea?

I am under agreement not to disclose what I know about the internals of
XP ... but let's just say ... no, I don't like it ... and leave it at that.

It came with the PC, and I'll be d*mned if I was going to let BG have
any *more* of my hard earned money!

Any new application has a learning curve, especially graphics programs.
They all seem to use different paradigms of interaction.

Don't feel obligated to *learn* Linux. I think that aura surrounds
Linux a little too closely. The "Unix geek" syndrome, I guess. These
days Linux is packaged up well enough that you don't need to learn any
more than with XP.

But good luck learning as much as you wish!

(Although I will say that learning Shell is very worthwhile, though
confusing at first ... it is the key to really automating things under
any _nix)
