Hi

I just upgraded to windows 11 from windows 10 and after that whenever i right click on a folder explorer.exe crashes and restarts itself.
Its really annoying.
How can i fix it?

Hi, a 3rd party app that adds a menu item (shell extension) is often the issue when this crash happens. You right click, it tries to bring up the menu but runs into an error, and Explorer crashes.

Start by opening Event Viewer and see if you can trace it down to a error message that gives you more information. Click the + beside of "Errors" to open it up and look through them to see if any correlate to the Explorer crash. For example: "The WinZIP.dll shell extension caused a crash." Then you know it's WinZip that is the issue and you would uninstall it to see if the issue is fixed. If so, try reinstalling it. If you get the same issue, remove WinZip for good (or try a different version / update of it).

If you can't trace it down to a certain program, then download and run ShellExView. It will list all of the shell extensions that you have installed. In the program, disable all extensions that are NOT by Microsoft. Leave the Microsoft extensions enabled, do not mess with them. Then see if the issue is fixed. If so, it was one of those extensions that you disabled that was causing the problem. Re-enable them one at a time until you discover which one it is. This will likely lead to you an application that you can remove or update to fix the issue.
