Folder opening changes

When I open new folders, they cascade on top of one another. This means the first is mainly obscured by the second and so on.
Is there any way to fix it so that new folders open alongside one another, OR that the cacade is wider so that more of the older opened folder is visible?

Right-click on the taskbar, you will see several sorts of the windows you can do. I don't see a way to set this as a default action though.
