HI,

I may be so stupid questioning this but I when I downloaded steam I put it in the downloads folder in the file explorer, now I do not know if that is part of the program filesx86 I am quite a noob when it comes to this so if someone could explain where exactly the downloads folder is ? What is it ? and can I move it because I would like to organise my HDD because it is getting slower.

Thanks

Solution

Well, that was about a dumb move. Sorry.

So, to fix this.

MOVE your current SteamApps location.
1. Create a new folder somewhere else. Call it MyGames.
2. MOVE the existing Steam games to that folder.
like this:
To move an already installed game
Games library
Right click the game
Properties
Local Files
Move Install Folder

Then...
Uninstall your current Steam client. It should NOT be installed in the downloads folder.
Reinstall it, accepting the default Program Files location...

Downloaded the Steam client?
Or individual Steam games?

Your Downloads folder is a subfolder (sort of) of your /Users/<YourName>/
Should be seen when you open File Explorer, over on the left.

The default game location is under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.

Do NOT just randomly move things around. Tears will result.

No I download the steam client under the downloads folder and therefore all steam games are in the downloads folder too. There is nothing within my program files which says the folder steam so I am worried to as where it is.

You download the Steam client...this exists in your Downloads folder.
You then Install the Steam client. This then exists in "Program Files (x86)".
This is also the default subfolder for your games....a sub called SteamApps.

No...No. I installed steam onto my downloads folder as well. E.g when i go onto file explorer I go under local disk/ Program Files x86/ There is nothing there related to steam but when under downloads steam is there with everything.

In the steam client:
Steam

Downloads
Steam Library Folders
Add library folder
