is there a difference in the health regen effect of food from tier 2
harvested stuff vs tier 1?

Tier 2 is longer duration and better regen than Tier 1. We won't know
the real differences until the big patch in January when they add the
food/drink effects to the descriptions. I'm not sure about Tier 3 or
4, but I did see somebody taking orders for Tier 4 drinks that lasted
90mins - Tier 2 Refreshing OJ lasts 104mins, so I hope the regen is
just absolutely ridiculous.

Cool, I didn't realize tier and duration were independant of each
other. Thanks.

Actually, I believe it's just better regen. Duration is decided by the
"quality" (Bland, plain, savory, delectable, I think?). Vendor bought
food is always "bland", and summoned is always below bland. Generally
speaking, the higher level the recipe for crafted food/drink, the
better the regen it offers. However, your regen is limited by your
level. So, you can't get the full benefit of food from a level 20
recipe at level 1.

Duration is based on quality level. Amount of regen is what the tier gives.

Is it possible to harvest food directly instead of ingredients (if a cleric)
?

Nope. Like in real life, gotta prepare what you "harvest". Sure,
there's some stuff you can eat straight from the ground IRL, but it's
going to be much better for you prepared and you're much more limited
in what you can eat. The up side is there are plenty of Artisan
recipes for the basic stuff.

Also...Doesn't matter if you're a cleric, predator, or commoner.
Anyone can harvest anything, provided they've gotten the skill in the
harvesting skill to harvest the node.

Summoned food gives +2 to power regen. Tier 2 is +24 to regen. Tier 3
is +36 I believe.

Savory/Chilled is approx 1hr duration, regular stuff is 1hr30mins,
Delectable/refreshing is 1hr45mins.

Not that I've seen. EQ2 has a VERY high requirement
for player interaction. I've yet to see a mob drop coin,
for instance -- if you want money, you sell loot, to
merchants for low prices or to other players. If you
want the reduction in downtime better food & drink
bring, you make or buy it...

Which is inherently silly when I am harvesting Oranges for example...

Sure, they can be used in a variety of recipes, but, they are also quite
commonly eaten raw, no preperation at all required.
