for 144hz monitor do i need 144 frames/p/s

So i just recently got a new monitor. AOC agon ag27qxx. I hav a gtx 1070. Right now all im only really playing is Overwatch.



to get full benefit from the 144hz does that mean I need to get 144 fps average? With maxed out settings im Averaging around 90-100. If I drop the settings it gets ~144fps, I just hate to do that when I spent all this money on a monitor and video card and could exchange the 1070.

If i drop down to 1920x1080 I can get 144fps at 144hz.

Should I keep vsync on?

Do i need to take back the 1070 and get a 1080 if I want to get closer to the 144fps on 144hz 2560x1440?

144hz means that your monitor can handle up to 144fps. It's sad to run at 60fps when you can run at 144, but it doesn't matters that much.

1440p 144hz is HEAVY, take a 1080 or even a 1080 ti if you can get one.

Yes your monitor can display up to 144 frames per second so naturally to be able to experience that silky smoothness you need to be at 144fps or 120 theres really no difference. You dont need to turn ALL the settings down to reach your target FPS, tweak it, some settings may be alot more resource intensive than others. But if you were looking for 144fps at all times maxed out at 1440p then you will need a 1080 or 1080Ti.

card so no cash back and they are all out of the 1080 ti 🙁

I went back and got a 1080, what a difference. Im now able to run overwatch at 2560×1440 at 144hz and get about 125 fps. When I drop it down to 120hz I get arounder 135. Graphics maxed out
Glad I got the 1080, just wish to had the time in Stock as I paid with a gift card and can't afford $750 for a ti somewhere else
