For 3rd and 4th monitor, same brand, resolution as first 2?

I've got 2 AGM CW 19" wide screen monitors that I use for online stock and currencty trading. They're OK except I think small type faces aren't that clear sometimes. I don't know if that matters for what I do most of the time.

Most wide screen resolution is 1440 X 990. For regular 19" it's 1280 X 1024. Will the 1280 X 1024 seem sharper for small type faces?

I'm thinking of getting 2 more 19" LCD's for a total of 4 monitors (very common in stock trading for multiple charts, etc.).

Should I buy the same brand and WS resolution or will it matter to my set up and graphics card which is a PNY Quadro 440 NVS PCIEX 16. It can run 4 monitors from one PCIEX 16 slot, that's why I bought it even though it was pricy. Do all the monitors have to have the same refresh rate, etc.?

I run 4 monitors @ 1280x1024... 2 of them off of a Quadro NVS 280.

1. Your text should be clear. Maybe it's the widescreen thingy. You might try increasing the font size by one point and see if it clears up. (I presume 1440x990 is a resolution supported by the card and you have the monitor resolution set to that?)
2. You can use any monitor you want where your video card supports the native resolution. None of them have to "be the same" as others. Each monitor can be set to its own resolution and refresh rate.

I think the small type fuzziness is a "wide screen thingy" perhaps. I might try a "regular" 19" monitor with 1280 x 1024 to see if they are any sharper.

How do you like your Quadro 280 card? What are you doing with it? Do you know about the Quadro 285? It's supposed to have 128 MEM.

My Quadro 280 is just fine. Did a test of VGA vs. DVI, could see zero difference even with a magnifying glass, so opted to run on VGA.

Text on a regular 19" is quite sharp. If you're checking out new monitors, my favorite brands are Samsung and NEC... LGs look good on specs, too.

The 285 is PCIE, my mobo is AGP. 128 RAM is much more than needed for trading. (I used to have a 4-monitor rig where the video cards were only 4MB RAM... could tell no difference from what I have now.)

did you really buy a monitor from a company who only offers a 24 month warranty?? You have got to be out of your mind. Especially from an off brand.

Good luck to you. Personally I would buy a monitor from a reputable brand that is atleast 3 years if not 5.

Some of the off-brands offer only 1 year warranty... buying one of those is nuts!

A few years back, I'd seen a cheap LCD, KOGi brand, with 6-month warranty. Yeah, right. Later, they offered one with a big rebate and 3-year warranty. So, I bought it and used it every day for 3 1/2 years and it was perfect.... still is, just replaced it with a bigger one.

The only makers I can recall offering more than 3 years in any form are Planar and NEC.... and they both make "medical grade" monitors. Duh!
