For gaming is a 4.2ghz CPU with quad core better then a 3.5ghz six core with Nvidia gtx 610 2gb gpu?

Solution

Just curious, would OCing the 6300 to the same clock speed help it to have the same single threaded performance? Or is there something different about the architecture between the two.

And chowder I'd recommend the 6300, it will run older and new games just fine.

Good guess man. What do you think?

That is better, the FX4350 will be faster in single threaded games and the FX6300 in multithreaded which is the way to go for new games and future releases.

The PSU is a little ominous.

What's your budget and currency? We may possibly be able to help you pick out a better rig.

PC and monitor for £500 pounds.

That was from fresh tech solutions two identical pcs apart from the CPU but I wasn't sure which one to go for.

I haven't build my own but I know how to after fixing my laptop a few times so I think I could do it but I would prefer pre built.

Or just suggest rigs and I will find a site that builds it for you.

Slightly over budget. You could remove something like the optical drive and it would be under budget. BTW do you have a copy of windows? Or do you have 'alternate methods' to acquire one?

That's about as low as I could get it:

Thank you so much I haven't been able to decide so thanks for that also what a bout cooling and thermal paste.

Will that hdd be big enough I have 53 games on steam and I'm looking to buy more.

Wouldn't a WD blue 1tb be better?

The price from fresh tech for the above I first said is £323 with windows and the monitor is £99 with speakers would that be better?

As I said, the PSU seems ominous. It might be a no-name brand and unreliable and the PSU is something you don't want to cheap out on; if it blows, it can take everything else out with it. Also the PC doesn't come with windows but you could purchase that separately.

As for the monitor it's essentially the same as the one I linked but costs £10 more.

All in all it's up to you.
