This is just insane at the amount of people on this stupid bandwagon.

Give it a rest!! please...

This is not the numero uno, in coolers.

For the record, the ZALMAN CNPS9700, fricken pwns in dropping temp with full copper and curved heat pipes:p

So, to all you that over hype the: XIGMATEK, get off it!! or else we would think you worked for them.

WTF is your problem ya spastic praying mantis! read the toms cooler charts, google reviews of it, the xiggy OWNZ everything except perhaps the OCZ vendetta 2 or the TRUE, with which it is pretty much equal.

I have both the Xigmatek and the True and Xigmatek performed just about the same as the True, so for the price I would say Xigmatek is great.

and with a nice LED fan on it it looks HAWT! also, the price is 20 dollars ish less than the TRUE WITH A FAN! the true comes without one, the xiggy does not, yet is STILL cheaper!

shows the TRUE power of direct heat-pipe touch if you'll forgive the pun :p

the xiggy + the retention bracket is still way below the TRUE and the zalmans... they just put them seperately because in some cases its not needed, and some ppl already have a retention bracket lying aorund :p also to bring the price down even further.

The TRUE+SFF21F combo cost me 80 EUR last year (costs 71 EUR now).
The XIGMATEK costs 40EUR (with screws+backplate retention kit).
ZALMAN 9700 costs around 60 EUR here.

I'd like to see a ZALMAN 9700 keep an overclocked quad below 50°C during a 4 core Prime95 run like the other two do.

The XIGMATEK's hype is well deserved (at least amongst FACTBOYS). :)

LOL! :pt1cable:

Funny read.

You guys get on Jerb's case for getting up in Arms about the Xiggy. Then ya start talkin about the Zalman like it's a stock Intel cooler. :non:

The Zalman is definitely not the best cooler around anymore, but it's a tried and true work horse..... It's a good buy any way you look at it. (Unless you want a very extreme OC)

I think the TRUE is the best cooler out there, but the Xiggy takes the lead in many peoples minds because of a "Price / Performance" ratio... Buying a True instead of buying a Xiggy is kinda like Buying a Geforce 280 instead of an ATI HD4870.

I however like the Zalman and I'll tell ya why. Cuz it's pretty! The Ziggy and the TRUE are ugly as sin! The Zalman, with it's blue LED fan and pure copper fins, looks great in my Thermaltake Armor case.

People also talk about the Zalman being loud. NOT true when you put it next to my HD4870 (Fan is at 55% -----> Shop Vac) :wahoo:

^the xiggy can perform just as well as the TRUE in most cases. also, they can both look very nice with a blue lED fan....big bloody deal. do you build a computer for its looks or to play a game? when you're playing a game do you look at your tower ever 2 seconds and say wow that is so cool... build a computer for what it can do not for how it looks.

just like cars with bodykits on them...sure they look cool but do they make it go any faster? :non:

It's just that i don't really think there is too much difference between all the high grade cpu coolers on the market.

I agree that the XIGMATEK is a great deal because of the price, but people are acting like it creates miracles.

all the top end coolers do a great job at cooling, and all the tests done on them and reviews, do u guys believe the results like its set in stone?

the Zalman cooler is proven and has sold much more in numbers i bet:)

The Zalman rocks and looks great:)

sure the zalman looks kewl, but what about the TRUE black edition? in any black themed SLI rig, that would look much more in place than copper and a blue LED...

and i guess the thing people really like about the xigmatek is it's simplicity: it doesnt need 20 heat pipes as long as it's 3 heatpipes are made with Design in mind! such simplicity to have them touching the IHS instead of a base separating them... imagine if the TRUE had HDT! :)

I don't know if I like the HDT or not. (Heat pipe Direct Touch)

I understand the benefit of having the pipes directly on the heat spreader, but it doesn't make for a very flat surface. And you can't exactly lap the bottom of a heat sink with exposed heatpipes.

The TRUE does not have exposed heat pipes and the surface that meets the CPU is concave and textured. That makes no sense to me at all. I suppose you could lap the bottom of the TRUE to get some REALLY great performance out of it. But lapping a heat sink is tough! All those aluminum / copper fins are delicate and you don't want all that oil from your skin on them.

The Zalman however comes out of the box with a mirror finish on the bottom of the heat sink.

i dont get it. i have the XIGMATEK on my q6600 overclocked at 3.2GHz. it keeps temps in the mid 50's after 15 hours of running prime95. 30's on idle and its alot cheaper than any other comparible cooler. a cheaper cooler that does the job well, what more can you ask for? unless you like spending money for sake of spending money. i will always hype whatever is the best bang for my buck.

This is true... 3.2GHz on a Q6600 is very nice. I currently run a Q9450 at 3.2GHz... I could push it further, but only 300-400MHz further.

I assume your Q6600 has GO stepping which rules! The Q9450 does not overclock as well as the Q6600 but it's still a killer chip. With twice the cache as the Q6600 and the 45nm architecture, it would be interesting to see benchies between our two systems.

- Witt

PS - I have a Zalman 9700 LED attached to my CPU with AS5. (35C idle / 50C loaded for 10H, 20M of Prime95 Small FFT's) (BTW, my CPU is Lapped also.)

PPS - Funny we are having this huge conversation about heat sinks when all three of them perform EXTREMELY well.

yup yup, same here. i had mine at 3.6GHz, temps were still good, low 60's prime95 8 hours. but the vcore had to be at 1.55 for that. 3.2GHz is plenty for me.

Yes, yes, yes:)

have ran any on yours. i have been to lazy to load up any bench programs.
FYI: my q6600 is the 65nm

hey thats cheating, lol. no lapping here but did use the retention bracket.

PPS - Funny we are having this huge conversation about heat sinks when all three of them perform EXTREMELY well.
lol, that is so ture. i had all three of these on my list while building my rig. for me, other than it doing the job, it was not about price, the XIGMATEK just fits perfectly in my antec 900 case with my mobo. the case fans are right inline with it.

here is one run on prime95. ambient temps were right around 85F on this one. max Temp 58 here. usually runs low 50's when i am home and open some windows. but i wanted to keep the "comp room" warm. no AC for testing:)

hehe. Okay... I'm going to play a little Team Fortress 2 before work... However, before I leave, I'll slap up some Prime 95 and capture a screenie when I come home tonight.

I should have it posted between 11:30PM and 12:00 AM EST.

- Witt

PS - DAMN! Your DDR3 has tighter timings than my DDR2. (5-5-5-18) THAT'S IT! I'm replacing it with some Patriot! LOL!

Guys the Zalman cooler cools as much if not more than the XIGMATEK, my e8400 idles @ 27c and after prime95 it hits 47c!!! and this is at 3.6 Ghz.

Now tell me that isnt awsome for the Zalman!!

Okay, I have arrived home from work. Sad day. I broke a whole 12-pack of Sam Adams Summer Ale. (Damn! I never drop Natural Lite. Always the expensive, good beer.)

As promised I have a screenie with some Prime 95 testing on it. Take a look.

Notice that my VCore is below my VID dispite being Overclocked from 2.67GHz to 3.2GHz!

- Witt

PS - I'm running a Zalman 9700 LED and my temps are NOT better than prow who has a Xiggy and a much more extreme overclock. So I don't know how Jerb can claim the Zalman is better. It's good... but no Xiggy.

PPS- My chip is Lapped to a friggin' Mirror finish... Prow's isn't... And his temps are still better than mine.
