hey guys
so I'm currently doing a research project to do with which components are best in a few different price ranges for gaming.
what I need to know is what price ranges you would all consider low-budget, mid range and high end.
low-budget would be computers put together with the intention of playing low-end or old games
mid range would be for playing the bigger titles, but aren't too concerned about having a perfect 60 FPS or amazing graphics, and high end is those who want to play high end major titles at the highest settings with good frame rates, but without making them overkill (enough to do that on a single 60Hz 1080p monitor)
could you also suggest how much would you spend on each component in those price ranges. I'm not looking for specific parts, just general price ranges.

any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Solution
Personally, I think that the breakdown would be roughly as follows:
$450-500CAD = Low end
$500-1000CAD = Mid
$1000-1500CAD = High
$1500+CAD = Enthusiast

One might even push it to $1200, but most systems like these can play the large majority of games quite nicely. Enthusiasts are those who use things like water cooling and multimonitor gaming with setups like SLI. Special group.

Searching these was actually quite helpful. While the purpose of those seems more to help choose the specific parts, it does give me general guidelines for individual component and overall PC costs. Using ones from previous years may give me something to compare to, if a need ever arises.
thanks for the suggestion :)

I have found a site which gives more guidelines for many more price ranges.
http://www.logicalincrements.com/ seems to sum up what my eventual outcome will look like.

Yeah, things like awesome monitor/keyboard-mouse setups, cooling and multi-GPU's aren't really my concern for the project.
My current PC sits at about your mid range and plays most games fine on medium settings, bad for recording though.
Thanks
