I just built my new computer specs

Case : Stormtrooper
Mobo: Asus P877-V LK
GPU- MSI 660ti Power edition
Ram- 8gb 2x4gb corsair vengance
HDD - segate moentus xt 500gb
cpu- I5 3570k
psu- 750w pc power and cooling Silencer MK II


PROBLEM: Trying to do a fresh install of windows 7 on my new hdd
The HDD is recognized in the bios as well as all the other componets, but when i chose to install it during the installation win 7 wont recognize the partition or disk.(even though it shows it listed on the install screen as unallocated if left formatted or disk 0 partition 1 if new partition is made. Am i never going to be able to use this thing? WTF does everyone installing windows on a bare drive go through this? I have formatted it, deleted it, made a new one (using the win install) and nothing... Ive used the system repair and nothing... ive screwed around with booth priorities and nothing.....

I have a $1200 powerhouse computer that is sitting because i cant put win 7 on a HDD.....

I tried the bootsect, I tried taking the HDD putting into another pc... WTF.

PLEASE. IM GOING NUTS. SAFE A LIFE, HELP ME OUT!

Try another harddrive in your PC. See if that works.

During the windows install, before selecting your drive to create a partition on, load this - http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/sata/Intel_Rapid_V11101006_V11501207_XPWin7_8.zip

And then choose the drive and make a partition.

It's possible that the zip file has a tool to make a disk, I didn't open it to see...

Also, this is the 64 bit file version. If you're running Windows 32 bit then go here - http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z77V_LK/#download
And select the OS then select SATA

I'm sure I've come across instances where the installer sort of gives the impression that it sees the sata drive but can't actually do anything with it (probably no driver and just reporting what the bios sees).

If that is the case there are two options:

a) popping into the bios and switching the sata controllers into legacy/ide mode for the install then loading the proper drivers after and switching.

b) there should be the option of loading drivers at the install screen either from the cd motherboard cd or from a usb stick.

Hopefully this is just the problem...'cos we all like the easy to fix ones!

Ive tried this, and adding it to the USB that has windows on it, and then installing these beforce i continue with the installation. I cant get the computer to recognize and do anything with the files..... when i search for them i see the folders but thats it... i click on the folders and nothing happens

Okay referencing your link, step 6 is the part i can not get past... my HDD shows up as an option but windows will not automatically partition it as an active and system file. it says it cant find a disk or partition to intall windows with

have you unzipped the file? did you read the F6Readme file? Here's an excerpt from it...


5.3 Pre-Installation Using the F6 Method.

Note: The Steps 1 and 2 can be skipped if you use the F6 Floppy
disk utility provided by Intel. These methods
are applicable to systems configured for RAID or
AHCI mode.

1. Extract all driver files from the installation package.
See section 7.2 for instructions on extracting the
files.

2. Create a floppy* containing the following files in the root
directory:
iaAhci.inf, iaAhci.cat,
iaStor.inf, iaStor.cat,
iaStor.sys, and
TxtSetup.oem.

5. When prompted, insert the media (floppy, CD/DVD
or USB) you created in step 2 and press Enter.

6. At this point you should be presented with a selection
for one of the controllers listed in the Overview (Section 1)
of this document depending on your hardware version and
configuration.

7. Highlight the selection that is appropriate for the
hardware in your system and press Enter.

8. Press Enter again to continue. Leave the floppy disk in
the system until the next reboot as the software will
need to be copied from the floppy disk again when setup
is copying files.

Download Ubuntu and check the HDD Instalation process, in Bios change to AHCI in Drive Options.
or
Check the SATA wire and in Bios maybe there is a Boot Option required that your HDD will Be the 1st out of other devices.

You are installing to a hybrid drive. Make sure that AHCI is set in the BIOS.

How much free space does it show you? Could it be that it's detecting the SSD part?

Also, set the BIOS to AHCI and check.

:answer.. problem with ISO file... so i oreded a new OEM disk from newegg today

new problem: I borrowed a friends disk to get windows on there and will use my key from newegg once i receive it.

When I plug in my 660ti my monitor gets no signal and from either the GPU or motherboard hdmi. (i hear the beep like the bios is posting, but nothing). When i take the card out... and use the onboard hdmi it boots up... I switched pci e card slots and same thing. I tried a VGA cable from the card to the monitor and same thing... So when the card is in I get no signal at all from mobo or gpu ... when its out the onboard works... I downnloaded the Nvidia drivers but can install them because it says cant find hardware... which is obvious because i cant have the card plugged in to see the the screen. any suggestions? This is my first build.. I decided to do it after a friends build and a family memebers build went smoothly.. mine... not so much

I have the same setup, same GPU and board. You need to load the drivers from the disc that came with the GPU. The website hasn't update the drivers yet.
