I have a laptop with an integrated graphics chip and a GTX680M. The nvidia card is correctly used for games etc which is fine but when I go into control panel to manage my display adapters they are all using the integrated chip.
The reason this is a problem is because I want to connect TWO external monitors to my laptop and extend my display across all 3 screens. The Nvidia card supports this (I think it can support 4 displays) but the on board Intel chip only supports a maximum of two displays at once.
So when I go into control panel to manage my displays, it can correctly detect both my monitors and it will extend my desktop onto any two displays but not all 3 together.
So I want to force windows to use the Nvidia card for managing the display adapters so I can get around this limit of my on board chip and use the Nvidia hardware.
This is what I've tried so far:
1) Checked in BIOS - Nvidia card is selected as VGA device
2) Tried disabling on board chip - that did not go well! Entire screen went black and I had to reboot to put it back
3) Tried setting the Nvidia card to be used as default in the "Manage 3D settings" section of the Nvidia control panel.
I've read a ton of threads about this and many of them say you just have to use the Nvidia control panel to force the Nvidia card to be used on an application basis. But I don't have "windows" itself available as an application!
Any help much appreciated, thanks!
