Forcing refresh rate for all games to 144hz

Hey guys, I would like to get a little help on something.
So I'm trying to set the refresh of certain games that do not have a setting in the options to change the refresh rate, thus being 60hz by default it seems. I've got an ASUS VG248QE 144hz monitor and I was wondering if there was a way to do this. I would assume it would be done through forcing through the GPU driver.

Solution
My mistake, I am sleepy. I will get back to you later unless someone else solves this for you. But its just a problem with some games that don't support high refresh rates. Workarounds are usually .ini/config files, and small hacks.
You can download RivaTuner Statistics Server and simply set your desired refresh rate (cap FPS) and it will do that for you in all games. This is not going to get rid of screen tearing. If you can only set a maximum of 60 Hz, on a 144 Hz display, we may have to do some troubleshooting.

What display port are you using?
What graphics card are you using?

My specs are in my signature. That being said, got a Gigabyte R9 270X that can push enough frames in the games that I play. Display port version I would assume it is 1.2x. I'm able to set the refresh rate to 144Hz in Windows and many games. But the games that do not have the option to enable it in their settings do not work. I've tested with a non 144Hz monitor and smoothness is equal on each monitor. When is enabled/able to be enabled, it's butter smooth. Tearing is not an issue for me.

Edit: I can check my monitor's system info to see if it's running at 144hz or 60hz. It changes as the refresh does, I can confirm this is a viable way to check in my case.

Thanks for your input anyways. No worries.

First let me start by saying refresh rates and frames per second are 2 different things refresh rate or Hz is the rate at which your monitor refreshes FPS is how many frames your GPU is spitting out per second. Many games will cap the FPS but it cannot touch the refresh rate. To your initial question. As Suzuki said in many cases you can modify a config file in the directory of the game you want to get 144hz out of. Usually a simply google of unlock <GAME> frame rate will let you know if it's possible and where to find the file to modify.

The only way to do this is to use ToastyX custom resolution utility and remove ALL of the standard, established and detailed resolutions, and to also delete the extension block.

Then you need to add an Automatic LCD REDUCED 144hz refresh rate.
However I can't guarantee this will work.
It DOES work for forcing 100hz though.

Strange thing. If I put my game in Windowed mode, and once it sets the refresh rate to 60hz, I can alt tab to change the refresh rate in Windows back to 144hz and it runs at 144hz. Or if I have a game running at 144hz, then alt tab to the one that isn't 144hz, refresh sets to 144hz.
