Forgotten Halls

Hi All

For those who have the GoD expansion, and haven't tried the Forgotten
Halls in Nedaria's Landing, I recommend it as a good spot to hunt.

It is a bit similar to an LDoN adventure, as it is an "instanced" zone
with the mobs being tailored to your level, except you can *solo* in
there at low levels. I went in at 21, and the xp is very good indeed.

The Rat Room is particularly good as they do not aggro and are not
social, at least at the levels I have been while playing there. Loot
is not good, but xp is what counts :)

Talk to Eldros Danmer on the middle jetty in Nedaria's Landing to get
access to the Forgotten Halls.

Yes, I gather that at high levels the rooms can aggro, and since they
are instanced at the level of the soloer/party death can be swift!

Still, at the levels I mentioned, it is a great spot to solo. I have
read posts on the web that say 30's to 40's don't get aggro either,
but I will try it out with some of my higher level characters (say
levels 40 to 50's) and report :)

Okay, thanks. Guess that answers the 'why'. :)

Interestingly enough, they've never assisted for me there, and the last time
I was there was with all 65s.

I still couldn't solo there. But then, playing a monk, there's not a
helluva lot that I can actually kill solo anyway, so no big surprise.

I discovered that level 53 was the level they begin to assist the hard way.

Thanks, Faned, any info helps! I think I'll drag a lvl 50+ into
there and see what happens :))

Well, checked the place out with a 53 beastlord. The pet had Crystal
Belt (+650 hp) and Virtue, plus a set of Summoned plate armour, 2 X
Hand of Ixiblat (only pet toys that will proc), Muzzle of Mardu (for
Haste), Yekan's Quickening, Spirit of Storm and as many sundry buffs
as I could load onto it. I had Virtue too, and as many buffs as I
could pile onto myself as well. My AC was about 900 or so, hit points
3, 400 - I have a couple of decent weapons, one of which procs for 625
points of damage.

Sent the pet in to see how it fared, expecting it to do pretty
reasonably, but the pet got hammered down to 60% in about 12 seconds,
so I went in to assist. I rapidly went down to 33% hp and the pet to
even less in another couple of ticks. The mob had over 60 to 70% of
its hit points remaining, in spite of a couple of weapon procs, and
the pet's toys and Spirit of Storm going off a few times. We bailed
out, lol!

That was unexpected, as the 24 Necro solo'd in there for two or three
hours without any danger. I hadn't reckoned the mobs would increase in
firepower that drastically...

They didn't all aggro though, and I just got the one Rat, which was
probably just as well, really 😉

Back to my lowbies for a while, I think.

If all you're looking for is xp, I agree it's a good place.
The mobs are plentiful and repop quickly. But I generally
prefer either (a) a group to socialise with or (b) interesting
fights or (c) good loot to go with the xp, or (d) all of the
above. 🙂

Actually, the thing I found most disappointing about those
rooms in Forgotten Halls, is that nothing happens if you
manage to clear the room. The NPC standing outside because
he's afraid of rats/bats still just stands there and says
the same thing, and eventually the room repops. I was hoping
for some reward, or at least for something different to happen.

I like those too, but it's nice to have a place where low- to
mid-levels can solo if they have to. Sometimes you just need fast xp
to ding, and get those shiny new spells/whatever 😉

Yes, that is a shame 🙁

I've played in Forgotten Halls for various level characters, usually
the rat room. The bats and rats have never social aggroed, at level
21 or at level 55 or at level 65 or at level 70. However, I think
there is a room that is mixed bats and rats and they may social aggro
(I've never bothered to try as I cannot keep the rat room clear).
Anyway, it's strange ppl are getting different experiences regarding
aggro there.

Another strange thing about Forgotten Hall is that if you have more
than one person in a group, it's unpredicatable what level the mobs
will be. With 2 ppl, the average level seems to be taken and the
dungeon spawns based on that number. With 3 ppl (one level 58 and two
level 65), the mobs were all light-blue or green to the level 65s.

I noticed something like that at 24, when teamed up with a lvl 20
Necro. Some mobs were light blue to me, whereas on my own, all the
mobs were dark blue to my necro.

If the Avatar is over level 52, you'll die. They do assist. Please, come
back and confirm my correct statement that the mobs in FH assist post 52 or
at level 53 up.

Hmmm, well my necro was able to clear to the mixed room and that is where
he dinged 53 and died... I never went back and hunted as it appeared a
waste of time post 52.

That's your problem. They do assist in the mixed room, so just stay away from
there.

Stick to the rat room and the bat room. They never assist. I still go there at
66 if I need to plow a few quick AA percentage points.

Experience at 65 was 1% regular xp or 5% AAXP per rat. Some of the rats were
even cons. At 66 it's about 1/3% regular xp and 4% AAXP per rat.

It's a perfect zone for necro aggrokiting. I target a rat from the back of the
room and pull with Embracing. There's plenty of time to FD if it resists, which
doesn't happen very often. If it sticks the there's plenty of time to cast
Funeral Pyre and then run down the hallway to the intersection leading to the
Arena. Sit, wait for the rat to get to the bottom of the stairs, cast Horror and
send (rogue) pet, then run toward the arena. Sit, wait for the rat to clear the
archway, cast Saryrn's Kiss and run to the back wall of the Arena. Sit and wait
for the rat to get to the bottom of the stairs. FP and Horror are worn off by
now so refresh. Kite in a triangular pattern, refresh Darkness at about 50% and
FP once, the mob will turn to run at about 11% or so.

If you have DMF on you have to angle down to follow the terrain in the arena as
you run toward the back wall, otherwise the rat will warp to you.

Given the layout and the long hallways, I suspect this is also a very good zone
for fearkiting if you have chars of the appropriate level to do so. I suspect
the rats are classed as "animal" so Druids/Rangers might be able to get good
results there.

Hi Mary - you must have missed a post I made about the results of the
experiment.

No, they didn't assist each other against my 53 Beastlord. I used
Lethargy on one, ready to leg it to the NPC that zones you out since
everyone reports death is swift and sure if they all aggro. Just the
one came, but it shredded a rather well kitted-out pet then me as well
when I went to assist the pet. I had 3,500 hit points, and just under
900 ac - not bragging, as I know this is about par - and was lucky to
get out in time!

On the other hand, my lvl 24 Necro stayed there happily for hours,
leveling quickly and smoothly. The mobs were a cinch. Must be a very
steep increase in the effective level of the mobs compared to player
characters, I would think.

Yes, even my little Necro could fear them nicely, while soloing. I
might take a Druid in there and give Far Kiting a try as well, by way
of experiment.
