Format Drive Vista-no disk

How can I format my computer. Vista came installed. I have recovery disks.
Help, please. My laptop is behaving strangely and I am not sure what's wrong.
I bought a new one. I'd like to use the old Acer Aspire 5517 as a travel computer. Thank you.

If you have a Vista DVD you can reinstall and that will format and overwrite the old system with the new. Similarly, a copy of Windows 7 or 8 will do the same. If your travel computer only needs to be able to go online, handle e-mails and carry files around, a Linux system is free, will install cleanly, overwriting the old system, have no issues with drivers and will be online in minutes after finishing the installation.
