Im trying to upgrade os from ubuntu 14.04 to windows 8. As i attempted to install win8 it came up with a error with the desired hard drive saying that "windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk sapce. Windows must be installed to a partition formated as NTFS.

Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition is of a unrecognised type."

Im running it on the z97 gaming and ive tried booting it in legacy and uefi mode both havent worked and come up with a error. I havent formatted the HDD so im still running Ubuntu 14.04, would anyone be able to help thanks!

Solution
What you can do is create a bootable USB or CD of parted magic and fully reformat the hard drive to MBR with one NTFS partition. The installer should then succeed.
