format help please!!!

how long will it take to format (not quick format) sandisk 64gb pen drive ??i am formatting it to ntfs and its been 12 hrs already still hasnt completed

It should not take that long for a full format as it don't even take near that to full format a standard hard disk that is much larger. Something seems wrong. I have a 32gb usb 2.0 flash drive and it didn’t take that long at all for a full format. Several minutes but not hours. return it i would say. First try this i know it sounds weird. Sometimes i plug in a usb flash drive and it will be slow as hell. I unplug and replug it in and all the sudden it is running top speed. If that don't fix it then there is something wrong with it. You can try a low level format utility if your manufacturer has one you will most likely have to request it. That may fix it also or may not. You are not trying to use this on a really old computer with usb 1.1 are you?

i am formatting since it might had bad sectors and full format would have repaired but it has cleaned the pen drive and starting to format which is still very very slow .Thanks for the help wont be able to exchange since it was brought from different country

If it has bad sectors it will take a long time if it completes. No guarantees it will wont lose data. That sucks...

Step 1. Connect SD card or USB flash drive to your computer, launch EaseUS partition tool, right-click the card you want to format and choose "Format partition".

Step 2. A mini window pops out, on which you can edit the partition label and choose a file system such as FAT/FAT32, NTFS, EXT2/EXT3.

Step 3. Click "Apply" to confirm to format your 64GB SD card/USB flash drive to FAT32 with ease.
