How do I format a sshd without taking off the back cover?

Can you please share more details about your system's configuration? Is this SSHD your primary/booting drive or is it a secondary storage? You mentioned taking off the back cover, what exactly do you mean by that? If it's an internal drive, you shouldn't tamper with it physically as you would most probably damage it beyond repair.

As for formatting, there are numerous formatting utilities you can use.

Keep me posted with the details, though.

I only take the back cover off to blow out the dust that may occur; and to clean the copper parts with rubbing alcohol. I do not touch nothing else.

I'd still wouldn't recommend doing this with the SSHD, especially if there's important data on the drive. I'm afraid that the procedure you have executed might have damaged the SSHD beyond repair. Mechanical hard drives are very sensitive and there are tiny holes on the cover but they are not large enough to allow any dust to be accumulated inside the cover, so it was unnecessary to open it. For hard drive physical operations, it's essential to use a specific room (dust-free environment) otherwise the surface of the platter or the head would most probably accumulate dust and get corrupted.
I'd advise you to consider replacing this SSHD.
