Formatted usb stick!!

Well I feel like an idiot. I used the Windows 10 media creation tool on my usb stick to create the Windows 10 bootable. I must have missed any warnings about the drive needing to be blank!!

Are there any of those file recovery programs that actually work or should I just forget it? I'm trying one but all it's doing is finding files from the Windows 10 I just put there.

Is there any way of finding out what the original volume label for my usb stick was?

You could try using Recuva software. Saved me over 20GBs of data after a technician "accidentally" formatted one of my partitions.

I'm trying it, it's finding files but once the scan has finished it says something like 0 files found or something.

If you haven't already try its "deep scan" mode, otherwise the software might simply not work on flash disks.

Yeah I've tried, no luck. It just seems to find the files from Windows 10 I put on there by mistake. Might have to put this one down to a loss...

Hello,
In your case, you’d better add nothing new on this formatted USB stick and seek for format recovery over the internet.
And then, perform a deep scan patiently to find your original stick information back as possible as you can.
In these days, a USB stick is possible to be asked to format before any access since it is virus infected, gets unsupported file system and the like logical damages.
You are supposed to always format that USB flash drive after you do have backed up your very important data well. Of course, if you do have prepared data backups well, also update the backups, when it is necessary.
