Formatting a HDD WITH an OS on it.

I want to format my old HDD which I want to build into my new computer.

This HDD has an old Windows 7 installation on it.

I want to completely format the hard drive so I can build it into my new system.

How do I do this?

When you run the Windows install. it gives you the opportunity to format the drive you want to install to. So really you just put it in the new system. run the OS install, and delete any partitions during the install.

I am assuming that I ca do this in the old system also?

yes, but once you format the drive(or delete the partitions), exit out of the install. You want to do the install on the machine it will actually be in - it will set up the drivers for the hardware it sees.

I totally forgot to mention that this new system already has Windows 10 installed, so I'm assuming that I don't need to install Windows 7 then?
