Formatting an M2 without erasing the data

Hello,
I don't know what happened but recently I was transferring these files from a school computer into my 8GB M2 Sony Memory Card but then when I placed it into my mobile it wouldn't register the memory card. At home I then put it into the adapter once more to check on my laptop and it said that the disk was unformatted yet the very night beforehand it was perfectly fine. Does anyone know what's happened and how to get the files off the M2 card?

Well, formatting usually means deleted data so......

Anyway, sometimes it's bad to jump to conclusions. Have you tried putting that M2 into another card reader? Sometimes it's the card reader that's broken.
