Is my Toshiba Satellite S75t-A7349 with Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (Socket FCPGA946) able to handle an upgraded Processor?

(UPDATE) Thanks for all of the replies. This has helped out tremendously. I feel all of the replies are good enough to be called a solution.

Just to let you know ahead of time, If you do decide to go for a gaming laptop, the ones with upgradable GPU's use a slot called MXM. These GPU's are expensive! More expensive (used) then their NEW desktop counterparts. For example a gtx970 desktop card goes for roughly $200 used/ $300 New. A used gtx970m mxm is $500 used. Money I would rather put towards a new laptop then sink into a 3 yr old one...
These are what is supported by the socket.
What Toshiba has not locked out in the bios is another matter. I see no posts of anyone upgrading the cpu in this laptop and honestly, with the 4910mq being the best one you could get (without needing a better cooler) only producing 200mhz more - its understandable. 200mhz isn't very noticeable from a users perspective.

Thanks for the reply! How did you come up with 200 MHz if you don't mind me asking?
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4910MQ CPU @ 2.90GHz

Wouldn't the difference be 500 MHz? (2.90 - 2.40)

Here are some benchmark comparisons from UserBenchmark.com

Intel Core i7-4700MQ vs Core i7-4910MQ
Userbenchmark Effective CPU Speed: 59.7% vs 66.4%
Intel Core i7-4700MQ - 226th / 1102
Intel Core i7-4910MQ - 169th / 1102

Also, at what point do you start to see a real difference as a user? This reasearch all started when my son was trying to play Fortnite on my PC and that is when I noticed the obvious issues it had handling the game. Here are some requirements from the Epic Games site on the game.

What are Fortnite's minimum and recommended specifications?

Our recommended PC specifications for Fortnite Early Access are below. As we go through Early Access, these minimum requirements will change to include more hardware options. If your system does not meet these requirements, be sure to check back as we improve our optimization.

Recommended System Requirements:
- Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 equivalent DX11 GPU
- 2 GB VRAM
- Core i5 2.8 GHz
- 8 GB RAM
- Windows 7/8/10 64-bit

Minimum System Requirements:
- Intel HD 4000
- Core i3 2.4 GHz
- 4 GB RAM
- Windows 7/8/10 64-bit + Mac OSX Sierra

Do you have any thoughts on making my current PC capable of playing a game of this caliber with a better user experience? I'd hate to get a new PC for gaming but if I have to do so, I may do that for his birthday by getting a desktop that is easier to customize/upgrade.

Here is the link to my PC's specs.
Toshiba Satellite S75t-A7349

I have upgraded the following:
- Hard Drive: Crucial MX300 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD - CT1050MX300SSD1
- RAM: (2 x 8GB = 16GB) Samsung M471B1G73BH0-YK0

Thanks for all of your help.

Without a gaming GPU in your laptop, your only option is an external graphics card for which you would need to 'give up' your wifi adapters' slot to accommodate the external GPU's adapter.

The cost of the external GPU adapter, power supply, and graphics card may put you well into the range of just getting a newer laptop that already has what you need built in; especially if you can sell your laptop to cover some of the expense.

What I would do is run/get in on the beta now and see how well it does with the integrated GPU. You wouldn't get much better an experience with the upgraded cpu because they both use the hd4600 graphics which is the 'weak spot' of your gaming experience. If you decide to try an external GPU, save yourself the cost of upgrading the cpu, the one you have is fine.

Hey Everyone,

I appreciate all of your words on this post. This is actually something my 10 year old got me fired up on. LOL This damn game has him using my iPhone 7+ or his moms iPhone 7. Of course the phones he uses for games (iPhone 5s and an iPhone 6+) can’t run Fortnite.

This whole thing kind of goes along the same conversation I have been trying to figure out for myself. I have recently been trying to do some video production and post production (editing video with Adobe Premiere Pro) on the PC that is the topic of this thread. To me it has been working OK but it could definitely be better.

I no longer have a need for a mobile PC (laptop) so my thoughts are now moving over to the desktop arena. The only question I have for myself is what is the best bang for the buck.

I really don't want my kids on my work PC so I may just rebuild my old iMac from 2007 and let them have at it. I cant remember the specs on it but it should be fine. Here's a link with the particular specs: http://apple-history.com/imac_mid_07

Processor
CPU: Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo
CPU Speed: 2.0/2.4 GHz
CPU Cores: 2
(Upgraded) RAM: 8 GB

Video
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO
VRAM: 256 MB

As far as myself, I am fine with the laptop I have now until I can save up some money to get a newer desktop (or just build my own dream machine). That should be the plan as long as the iMac can handle the gaming for the kids.

Fortnite Requirements:
Recommended System Requirements:
- Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 equivalent DX11 GPU

Minimum System Requirements:
- Intel HD 4000
- Core i3 2.4 GHz
- 4 GB RAM
- Windows 7/8/10 64-bit + Mac OSX Sierra (Not sure which OS I had before it was retired... this may be a snag)

Any thoughts on iMac 2007 performance chances on Fortnite while I have you all here?

Thanks for your comments.
