[SOLVED] Forza horizon 4 steam freezing

Hey
I downloaded fh4 on steam and whenever I start it up it freezes and I have to restart it multiple times for me to get into the game, is there any way to fix this?

Are you using a fresh/clean installed copy of Windows OS ? Are all the system drivers/software, including GPU drivers, and others like .NET, VC++, DirectX files, BIOS and firmware of your system fully up to date (updated/patched) ?

What about other PC games ? Do they run fine on this system ? What happens when the game freezes ? You have to do a hard reboot of your PC ? Does the game freeze while playing, or just by loading into the game's main menu ?

Anyways, first kindly provide PC specs.

-Complete" system specs should ALWAYS be accompanied with any driver, hardware, or performance question. Do not post DXDiag reports as they contain a TON of useless information. Posting a DxDiag in place of a System Spec List tends to ward off potential members from helping you.

Please supply the following system details/information, as much as possible. No need to post each and every info asked here though. This is just for reference (required for troubleshooting in depth):

-CPU make and model# (clock speed/voltage, type of cooler, and "Core" temperature @ idle and load)
-Motherboard make & model# (include Bios version if graphics card is not recognized or you are having stability issues)
-RAM (amount, clock speed, model#/link of kit, configuration)
-Graphics card(s) make and model# (clock speed, voltage if modified, Driver version and GPU temp both @ idle and load)
-Power supply make,model#, "AND" age (note if using 110V or 220V A/C input)
-HDD/SSD configuration (ie: Raid setup/ back up/ OS drive/etc..)
-Case/Chasis make,model# (fan make, model#, and configuration if having thermal issues)

Other games run fine, When the game freezes the only way to close it is task manager, mostly freezes while loading (rarely in-game)

CPU:3rd gen i5 3570
mobo: Dell 0GXM1W
bios:A29
ram: ddr3 16gb (4x4) CAS11 2400mhz( i think)
GPU: DUAL GPU SYSTEM
1.gt1030 2gb(driver 442.74) all stock, not sure how to measure temps
2. Dell radeon hd 7000 series (that's what cpu-z and other tools say so I'm not sure, but it only has DirectX 11 )
PSU: dell rebuild psu 240watts most likely over 10 years old 220input
storage: 480gb wd green ssd split into a 151gb and 293gb partitions (os on 151gb partition) and Toshiba 512gb HDD
case: Its a dell prebuilt(Optiplex 7010)
OS: Using windows 11 22h2(unsupported)
monitor:
1.Dell U2412M(connected to gt1030)
2. Viewsonic VA2445 (connected to radeon GPU)

I've used this installation of windows quite a bit, bios is the latest one not sure about the others

Thanks for providing the specs. First of all, I would like to point out that this game freeze could be related to Windows 11 OS. Horizon 4 doesn’t always work as expected in Microsoft’s latest desktop platform.

Some players have posted on Microsoft’s support forum about Forza Horizon 4 not running. For them, the game is not even launching in Windows 11 or keeps crashing when they start it at least. But for some users, there are no such issues.

Some steps you can try out now:

1. Try re-installing the game from scratch. Uninstall and then re-install the game if need be.

2. Or, instead of reinstalling, since you have the game on STEAM, then you could also try to verify the integrity of the game cache files. Check this link:

3. Run the game as an ADMIN under Windows 11 OS. Right-click the desktop shortcut for Forza Horizon 4 and select Properties. If you don’t have one, add a shortcut for it to the desktop by dragging the Horizon 4 app from the Start menu.

Then click the Compatibility tab on the game’s properties window. Select the Run as administrator checkbox. Press the Apply button, and click OK to exit.

4. Some conflicting software might be causing this freeze issue.

"Sonic Audio, Discord, FRAPS, OBS, MSI Afterburner, Logitech G Hub, Nahimic Audio, Xsplit, and EVGA Precision" are some of the apps confirmed to conflict with Forza 4. By any chance are you using a Microphone for Horizon 4 ?

5. Try to reset the Forza Horizon 4 APP.

6. Try updating the drivers for your GPU. Unless I'm mistaken, you are running a very older version of the driver, 442.74 as mentioned by you. The latest driver for the GT 1030 seems to be 528.24 WHQL for Windows 11 OS.

7. Try to disable any third-party antivirus software for the time being. There are quite a few anti-virus utilities that don’t mix well with Forza Horizon 4. AVG, Avast, Avira, Comodo Antivirus, and Emisoft Anti-Malware are among those confirmed to conflict with the game. So, it’s recommended to at least disable antivirus software before playing the game.

Alternatively, you could try adding Forza 4 to your antivirus utility’s exceptions list. Check the instructions on your antivirus utility’s website for further details about how to set up software exclusions for it.

8. Try doing a CLEAN boot of Windows 11 OS. This link might help.

9. Disable ALL background software or applications, including, Antivirus, Firewalls, and any FPS boosting or monitoring software.

10. Enable the windows high performance power plan as shown below, if need be.

11. Download the VC_Redist runtime packages for Visual C++ 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022.

I would actually first try this step instead, before looking into other options:

Try updating the drivers for your GPU. Unless I'm mistaken, you are running a very older version of the driver, 442.74 as mentioned by you. The latest driver for the GT 1030 seems to be 528.24 WHQL for Windows 11 OS.

Also, disable one of the GPUs, the Radeon HD 7000 series and use Geforce GT 1030 instead.
