Hello everyone I'm facing a problem these past two weeks and I'm smashing my head against the wall with no outcome whatsoever.

So a little backstory; my house had some electronic problems and the power kept going out at random times, one time it went down when my PC was on and ever since then I'm stuck with an 7F post code.

I tested two different GPUs with the same outcome. To be precise however, the first time that I tested my 770GTX which I had on an older machine, it actually booted up normally, but when I restarted the PC I was greeted with the beloved 7F again.

I don't have a spare PSU sadly the one I have is not compatible with the Mobo, so my question is, what are the chances that it's only the PSU that's messed up and not both the PSU and the Mobo?

Your help is appreciated!

Solution

I did remove the CMOS battery for a good 30mins with no results, there should be a jumper reset but I have no idea where it's located, the manual isn't that well writen really.

If you removed the CMOS battery already, then don't bother with the jumper reset, it does the same thing.

1. What is the power system like in your area, or is the problem just with your house?
2. Is it possible you also had a power surge along with a power outage, and it fried your PSU?
3. Is your machine plugged into a surge suppressor?

It was only in my house, I recently moved here and the whole place was a mess, as for a possible power surge that's what I fear since I can't really find another explanation. I just hope it only fried the PSU and no weird spikes moved on over to my Motherboard.

Is there any way I can test it?

It would help if you identified your motherboard. Also, is the 7F post code showing up on your monitor or the motherboard? If it's on the motherboard that should indicate the motherboard is not fried.

Solution

It's on the motherboard, monitor is pitch black.
Wait, I'm not a smart person... Since the motherboard does it's normal cycle and stops on 7F it actually means that the motherboard is fine.
Welp sometimes it just helps having someone to bounce-talk, thanks mate now all I gotta do is find a PSU to make the final test, cheers!
