A pc I acquired from grandparents is a inspiron 530 with a foxconn g33m02 motherboard, it doesn't support core 2 quad, but I was wondering if I could still mod the bios to use the xeon x5460 processor so I can make it a competent multipurpose "gaming" pc. Thanks

Solution
I wouldn't try with the BIOS. If the system is working fine as is with a Core 2 Duo, it's as good of a backup system you'd get. You can risk bricking the board/entire system with a failed BIOS update/mod.

Define multipurpose gaming rig...? These days it's quite hard to play any game on an aged system unless you have a lot of disposable time.
