Hello guys, I'm having a Foxconn H61MXE-K, and I'm planning to upgrade the cpu, particularly the i3 3220. My question is: Do i need to update the BIOS before installing the cpu ? And what will happen if i don't update the BIOS ?

Foxconn's own page has most of the information you're looking for.

From what I can tell, the motherboard was released before the Ivy Bridge CPUs as there is a micro-code BIOS update to support the newer CPUs at the time. Likelihood is the motherboard won't run the CPU if this update has not been performed, or will limit what the new CPU can do. From what I can tell, you'll need at least version BB3F1P02 of the BIOS for the Ivy Bridge CPUs to run correctly.
