[SOLVED] fps and refresh rates

If monitor refresh rates directly control the output, why do people bother having good GPUs? What is the point of having a 2080ti when your monitor only supports up to 60hz? If I were to have 500fps and a 60hz refresh rate, wouldn't the 500 simply be bottlenecked into a 60 fps?

Solution
There are monitors with higher refresh rates (as high as 240 Hz). Or high resolution, e.g. 4K, such that even a 2080 Ti can barely do 60 fps at max settings.

Having fps higher than refresh can also still reduce average input latency, for those that really care about that.
