FPS DROP Cpu high usage

I recently upgraded from my 1070 to my 1080 during the bit mining price increase. After about a week of swapping our the cards I am now getting fps drops. Tends to happen when I have high cpu usage. High temps are: gpu 59c, cpu 61c, motherboard 52c, sdd 59c. I'm using stock thermal paste on my gpu cooler. I'm getting 100 usage on my cpu, and 76 percent usage on gpu max. This is when I get the fps drop. Am I getting thermal throttling or is power supply not kicking out enough power when everything runs on load?

Regardless... if your getting 100% CPU usage after upgrading to a GTX 1080 and your playing at 1080p, you've increased the strain on the CPU and caused a bit of a bottleneck. But as above, check task manager to see what's actually using the CPU

You could combat that by OC'ing the CPU a little
or, use nvidia DSR and downscale 1440p to 1080p

ideally, you want to be running at a higher res

If you are running a 520W PSU, it is a bit close to the mark, but you wouldn't be getting frame drops and high CPU usage if it was power related... you'd getting system crashes/hangs instead

You can see the psu in the parts list linked and the ryzen 1700 doesn't have the 20 degree offset like the x does so the max temp is either 70 or 75. I'm using hw monitor. Psu is 520 bronze seasonic. My current background processes are using 2 percent of my gpu.

Check your Windows processes in Task Manager — sometimes, a few useless services eat up a lot of resources. If there is nothing there, try this:

- Open your Windows System settings;
- Click on Notifications and actions;
- Disable Show me tips about Windows;
- Restart your PC.

Hard to imagine a single sudden task causing true 100% usage....(maybe a malware issue?)

you will have to carefully monitor task manager or process explorer (downloaded from MS Technet/Sysinternals) to try to see which tasks could possibly be starting to cause such a spike for an 8c/16t system....

a quick scan with Defender and Malwarebytes AntiMalware never hurt anyone, and might find/identify a miscreant process...

(I'd also turn off DropBox, GoogleDrive, OneDrive etc., and make sure all Windows updates are done before starting gaming, just in case a background download is causing some sort of OS deluge...)

Did you try reinstalling drivers, both for mobo/chipset as well as the graphics card? If not, could be malware or other application. In task manager, sort CPU usage by highest to lowest. You will see what is using so much. Finally, you might just want to reinstall Windows.
