FPS drop for few seconds every 1-2 minutes

Hello,

For the last 2-3 weeks I've experienced a strange FPS drop in some games (I play Lineage II but it happens in BF3, MW3, or any other game I try). I can be playing with high amount of FPS, but randomly (usually every 1-2 minutes) I get FPS drop for few seconds. It goes, for example, from 60 to 30, back to 60, down to 30 again and back to 60, all that in a 2-3 seconds period. It wouldn't be so annoying if I wasn't trying to fraps while I play, which makes it look bad. Also I've noticed that when I start the PC this problem happens less frequently than when I've been playing for few hours, when happens every 30 seconds~. This problem was not happening before and the PC is new (1 month old), so I don't know what happened to make this problem start, I'll say what I have tried later.

My PC specs:
Intel Core i7 3930K overclocked to 4.5 GHz (also I've noticed if I have it less overclocked the problem appears more frequently, but before problem started I had it on 4.2GHz and had no problem at all)
2x Gigabyte Geforce GTX 690
Corsair H100
32 GB RAM (G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3-1600)
2x OCZ Vertex 4 256GB in Raid 0
3x BenQ 2420T
Seagate Barracuda 7200 3 TB
Bigfoot Network Killer 2100
Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 1300W
Cooler Master HAF X
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64bits

So, here what I have already tried:
- Updated graphic drivers, but I only noticed lot of problems (typical Nvidia control panel has stopped working), tried old ones and finally installed the drivers from the CD that came with the graphic cards, I still get this Nvidia control panel problem but once every few days.
- Checked every graphic card option, the power management etc. and didn’t change.
- I’ve updated my BIOS, didn’t notice any difference.
- Did format, didn't help at all.
- Checked the temperatures, on 4.5GHz they were 80 under prime95 checks, tried to go lower to 4GHz or even 3.6GHz, but didn't help.
- Checked if it wasn’t fraps problem, but even when I don’t have it installed I notice the FPS drop.
- It’s not about the game performance, because I can be just staring at a wall and still get the FPS drop, while nothing happens near.
- Checked if it wasn’t memory problem, did some tests (Windows one, memtest86+, etc.), but I didn’t get any error.
- Thought it’s maybe an energy problem, but after changing it in Windows options (on the screensaver choice power management options) didn’t notice any difference.
- Cleaned the PC from dust, but as I don’t have very high temperatures I don’t think it was that, also didn’t do any difference.
- I’ve checked if there is any special error I get, but the errors I see in the PC are not happening when the FPS drop happens.
- Checked if any process comes up when error happens, but didn’t notice any difference apart from getting a small spike in performance monitor.
- I don’t think it has anything to do with viruses, checked full PC few times.
- Wanted to check if it wasn’t a SSD/HDD problem, but I really don’t know how to check if they are working properly, still I didn’t have any problem before and hardware didn’t change at all. Updated the firmware from the SSD’s, but didn’t notice any difference.
- Thought it’s maybe a PSU problem, but I don’t know how to check PSU problems (I don’t have any other PSU to check), and again everything was working fine before.
- I’ve checked forums, but when tried to search in this forums “fps drop” lot of things appeared that had nothing to do with PC problems xD

Hopefully someone can think about something else that can be causing this problem, because it is annoying to have a PC like this and not being to able to play properly.

Thanks in advance and apologies for the wall of text.

Thats one serious PC. Have you checked your GPU temps, OCCT has a GPU test similar to prime 95 for GPUs? Also I don't think its the problem but with the SSDs in Raid trim does not work so they will slow down alot over time.

True, I forgot to say that I don't use 3D (to be honest didn't try if this happens with 3D on) and V-Sync is off, since I use the visual settings on performance mode because of Lineage II game (it's old one and doesn't handle good all the new visual options).

Also I've removed the Triple Buffering, Anti Aliasing, etc.

But when I format and installed the graphic drivers again I tried the games with the default configuration, but the problem was still there, so both options on/off had the same result, problem persisted.

To check temperatures I've been using the RealTemp, and it had GPU temp also (its on 60º while playing games), I will check the program you talk about to test the graphic cards, because they have been causing problems also with the Control Panel error I've said before.

About the SSDs I really got no idea how to check anything of them, I was thinking they could be the cause but I can't check it, but still when I got the PC for the first 1-2 weeks I had no problem at all, and I only updated their firmware once I started getting the problem, not before.

Thanks for the answers, I really appreciate them.

I just noticed I've forgot to add that I'm not using any antivirus software right now (was using before even when no problem happened), I installed it to check if it was any virus causing the problem but it was not.

Also I forgot to add that the motherboard is a Sabertooth X79.

Sorry for adding new post but I can't edit my previous posts.

Splendid
Given it's choosing exactly 60 or exactly 30 it sounds like v-sync is on even if it says it's not. something to do with the SLi perhaps? Have you tried disabling?

When installing the drivers after a format I've tried to play like that (SLI is auto disabled after installing the drivers) and problem was still happening, I've tried also the "Enable all the screens" option (Multi-GPU) and also Surround (Quad-SLI) and always had the problem.

About the FPS that was just an example, on BF3 I have the FPS max 60, so it can't go higher, but when FPS drop happens it goes to 10-30, its not 30 exactly :/

Did the GPU temperature check while playing and this was the result:

About the SSDs as I said before I got no idea how to check >.<'

Still can't wonder whats the problem, if someone can think of something else it would be a very nice help
