Fps drops after I installed a new CPU.

Hi, im having problems with severe FPS drops in all games i play.

I recently upgraded my cpu and now i get FPS drops in all games I play.

Everything usually goes really smooth for example if i play CSGO i usually get around 200-300 fps but every other minute it drops to around 20-40 fps for a few seconds (10-15 seconds usually) and then goes back up.

This also happens in BF4, Rust, GTAV, H1Z1, ARK, Etc..

My temps are pretty low and i have watercooling for my cpu so it usually is around 40-50 degrees and my gpu is usually around 60-70 (72 is the highest ive seen it up too)

My specs:
-ASRock 970 Extreme4 - ATX / AMD 970 / DDR3
-Sapphire HD7970 3GB (11197-11-40G) - PCI-E / DVI / HDMI / DP
-AMD FX-8350 4GHz Black Edition - Socket AM3+ (cores unparked)
-XFX 550W Core Edition PSU P1-550S-XXB9
-G.Skill RipjawsX 8GB PC-12800 DDR3 1600MHz + Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz

Any help would be appreciated!

If you are using stock cooler, CPU might be over heating. That's why you are facing FPS drops. Try and adjust your CPU fan speed. Set it to reach full rpm, when cpu hits 50-55 digree. That might help.
Before confirming anything, check the temperature and be sure that thats the issue.
If nothing helps, change the cooler.

It might be that you need a new PSU. I would try borrowing a bigger one, 650W+ and try with that.

I doubt you're overheating since you have watercooling and 40-50 is great for a cpu under load...

And as always, make sure you have the latest drivers, windows updates etc.

Oo.. I didnt noticed that he is water cooling his CPU. I guess it cz, im having similar configuration, instead of 7970 i have R9 280 and instead of 8350 i have 8320. ANd for me over heating is a problem. And i am using antec vp550.
Once i dealt with heating issue, i never faced any other problem.
Sorry for jumping into conclusion.

It might be that you need a new PSU. I would try borrowing a bigger one, 650W+ and try with that.

I have had thoughts about upgrading the PSU so i might do that, all the drivers are up to date. I did a clean install of windows after i put in the cpu

Seagate Intern Harddrive SV35.6 ST1000VX000 64MB 1TB And i have a samsung SSD 128gb for my on which i only installed windows and some drivers.

Update your motherboard drivers as well. If that doesn't help try a new PSU for sure.

I just upgraded my PSU to a Corsair PowerSupply (PSU) CX 750M 750W But unfortunately im still having troubles with fps drops :/

Have you tried updating your motherboard BIOS?

They are HERE if you want to try that as well.

I was kind of hoping you'd borrow a PSU from a friend, so I'm sorry you had to buy one to test with. You may return that PSU if you want to, though it will support bigger GPU's in the future if you want to see it as an investment.

Have you tried removing one of the unidentical sticks of RAM and see if the issue persists? They got different CAS latency after all... edit: might be wrong about this, could you perhaps link the ones you bougth?

I had plans on getting a modular psu before so wouldnt have to worry about the cable management as much so ill keep it

I have tried only using one of the Ram sticks i have and it made no difference fps drops where still there

Last but not least I installed and updated my BIOS using the dvd that came with it, I dont really know

Got a USB stick and did it, drops are still there :/

Download GPU-Z and click on "Sensors" in the program. Now set the "Sensor refresh rate" (in the bottom) to 2.5 seconds. Start CS: GO and play for 10-20 minutes (never alt-tab), just make sure you experience the drops a few times. Close the game, take a screenshot of the sensors and post it here please.

Can you do the test again, but this time pay attention to GPU load. - Are the ups and downs there representative of the in-game lag you experience? Also find out what % it has at the highest and lowest part of the graph.

I'm not sure if there are any errors here, just wondering about the whole gpu load thing.

Also can you please try to uninstall your graphics card driver using DDU (just google it) and reinstalling the latest, as well as reinstalling CS: GO onto your SSD. This is purely for testing reasons and won't be permanent.
