Hi guys

Just recently ive noticed my fps lower from what i used to get. (went from getting 80-60fps to about 40-35 fps) across all of my games.

Along with the stable drop im also noticing the it tends to drop to lower than 25 at times. this tends to happen on games with far view distances such as wow, skyrim, witcher 2, borderlands 2

Only setting that i lower that makes a significant fps change is view distance

V-sync is not on

- What i tried:-
virus scan
malware scan
gpu stress test
gpu error test
memtest
hard drive error test
hdd defrag
bought new PSU
registry clean
used msi afterburner to run gpu fan on max
tried dozens for graphics drivers
complete os wipe and reformat
monitored temps/ gpu:80c max cpu:60c max
tried 3 different monitors

Specs:
GTX 560
AMD FX 8120 8-core
8 GB 2x4 hyperX blu
500gb seagate barracuda
970 GA-Ud3 gigabyte mobo
(NEW) EVGA 600B 600w PSU

any Help/Suggestions are GREATLY appreciated

Your CPU is overheating, it is evident. The maximum safe operating temperature for 8120 is only 60C, which you are constantly reaching and CPU is throttling (reducing clock speed to prevent overheating, but this results in much worse performance). You need to clean your heatsink and replace thermal paste, or even better, get a new cooler like Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

Wish I could offer an idea that you haven't already covered. I would of most likely suspected either the OS aging, background programs draining CPU performance causing the drop, or some error with the drivers. Since you did a full reformat and reinstalled Windows that pretty much wipes all those out as possible problems.

My best thought now would have to be that a piece of hardware is wearing down and dying from age. Either the CPU, GPU, or motherboard. The best I could suggest to check this is to compare benchmark scores now against reviews of the hardware and see if your scores are significantly lower for the CPU or GPU and if they are that could indicate the hardware is wearing down and not performing optimally as it should. If not, you could try a motherboard switch but that is really a guess at best.

This seems a better consideration than what I just said. Cleaning your CPU, and your GPU while you are at it and applying fresh good quality thermal paste might well do the trick.

lol kinda funny but i literally have the Cooler Master 212 EVO. should have mentioned in the original post but i cleaned it out with air about 2 days ago. also looked into attaching a 2nd fan to it but couldent find the little plastic holders for the fan support 🙁

Certainly check, sir. It can also be higher 😀

This is certainly a good CPU cooler and if you are getting temps so high, you either need to reduce CPU voltage a little to reduce heating (undervolt) or improve case airflow. Reseating the heatsink might also be a good idea, along with thermal paste change.

Hi,

The issue is almost certainly one of the following:

a) Graphics card hardware
b) Graphics card drivers
c) other software bogging down the CPU

Things to try:
a) reinstall NVidia drivers and use the "CLEAN INSTALL" method during installation.

b) Monitor GPU temp and GPU frequency (see if GPU frequency is well below maximum such as 600MHz if a 1000MHz max)

c) run MEMTEST www.memtest.org

d) Reinstall Windows:

*like this:
a) Run a benchmark program like 3DMark2001 (preferably two or three if possible) then write down the default test scores on a piece of paper

b) Find/borrow an SSD or HDD that is at least 60GB

c) Install the drive and unhook the SATA power and data cables from all others

d) Install Windows (do NOT activate it)

e) Install Motherboard MAIN CHIPSET drivers, audio, video etc

f) Finish Microsoft Updates (takes a while.)

g) Install the benchmark programs and run the tests (probably should copy them to a USB stick or DVD before installing Windows)

h) COMPARE TEST SCORES!
If the test scores improve a lot then you had SOFTWARE issues. If so, you can attempt to isolate the issue or else use the new Windows installation though you'd need to plan that out and possibly boot back and forth between drives for a little while.

alright, re-set cpu and cooler, and downloading witcher 2 on a different hard drive to role out it being hdd related.

photonboy, i have compared furmark scores for this gpu and they are around they same as other peoples
