So I've been playing Assassin's Creed Revelations recently with a GTX 660ti 2gb and everything was going fine, anywhere from 60-140 FPS depending on the area when suddenly... When I ventured out into the open world, FPS drops down to the 20-30's. It seems to happen in pretty much every game I play including Borderlands The Pre-Sequel. Is this normal or shouldn't it be dropping THAT much? The max temp on my card when gaming is usually around 50-60c. Are there any tweaks/modifications to improve performance that every PC gamer should know? Also what common graphical settings tank FPS the most? Let me know... Thanks =).

Its definitely the change in rendering. From where you are looking the models, shadows, and distance to cover would increase the load on the GPU. I have a similar issue in skyrim when looking down on whiterun. But what you may want to tweak the settings (ie lower shadows, turn v-sync off, and lower texture).
