So i'm looking at getting a 1440p/165hz G-sync monitor soon, and the only thing stopping me is fps drops and how it'll affect my playing experience.
Right now, i'm on a 1080p@75hz display with a 7700k + 1070 (plan to upgrade the GPU to either the 1080ti, or whatever Volta is). From what i've seen, my rig is overkill for this display in everything but the occasional badly optimized AAA game.
My question is - On my old PC, whenever i dipped below 75fps in games it felt like a horrible stuttery mess. Now i know for a fact that my rig won't be pushing 1440p@165fps in the vast majority of games i play, so will i still get that horrible stutter? If i'm bouncing around between 90 and 130 fps in games like overwatch, will it still be a jagged uncomfortable experience, or is it not nearly as noticable at higher frame rates?
Thanks.
