Question FPS issue

Asus z170 pro
i7 6700K
16 gb ram 2400 MHZ
Nvidia GTX 1080 FE (got it refurb)
coolermaster 650M - PSU

i'm barely able to reach 100FPS on games like division and Apex Legends. On games like monster hunter world, elder scrolls online and destiny 2 i'm not even able to reach 100 FPS
please advice? Most recently I’ve found myself in anthem and get 144-150 FPS but only in tiny rooms away from the open world. Any advice is much appreciated.

Install MSI Afterburner to check if your usage and temps are right. If the CPU or the GPU reaches 100% usage, then there's nothing to do. If one of them goes over 80ºC, then you have a overheating issue.

None of the games you said is very well optimized. I have a 6700k with a 1070 and can get around 100FPS in Battlefield 1 at 1080p with ultra settings but Apex, being much worse looking, is around 90FPS even in the lowest settings.

I did that last week while scouring the internet for a solution and gpu only went about 60-70 and cpu during the stress test after overclocking to try to fix the issue ran up to 75 usage for cpu is 100 and gpu at 37-60

Oh! And also I have heard people say that some games are not optimized but...are there games that are better suited for 144?? I thought gears 4 would be one since I get 120 constant but even so it looks like the benchmark is on its own engine and I’m still unable to reach 144 with that game
