I cant seem to get above 50 fps steady in cs. im running a athlon 1gig, 512mb pc2100, 400w power supply, abit kg7 mobo, win200pro sp4, radeon 9800, maxtor 20gig 7200rpm hd, kds avitron 17" monitor. any help here would be apreciated. i know this is not a high end set up but i would think i could get better fps .

do you have TruForm enabled?

what drivers?

the thing that i am thinking the most of is:

do you have V-Sync enabled? because that would limit your FPS to 50 or 60 fps which is the refresh rate of your monitor.

does it ever drop below 50fps? i have a TI4200 and a Athlon 2000+ and never ever go below 99fps with 4xAF

1.6 or 1.5?

1.6 is a lot more demanding than 1.5 and does this happen when a lot of ppl on the screen or simply a few gun fires and frame dips?

truform is disabled and vsync is off and i m running the catalyst 3.7 drivers . 1024 x 768 16bit screen mode in game running in open gl mode also. 2xaa 2xaf

1.5 and 1.6 i get it alot when there are alot of people on screen but some maps i can get it when noone is around and im looking across the map with alot of objects in the field of view. do you play cs?

HL engine is notorius for its slow speed when a lot of ppl on the screen. (engine limitation)

And the only map i can think off that lag the crap out my pc when no one around is aztec, my frame dip to 20-30 sometime on that map.

What's Counter-Strike's maximum fps limited to? To check, type fps_max in the console. If it's set to 50 or whatever, set it to fps_max 100 That should uncap the frames. Of course, HL and CS don't display over 100, not sure why.
