FPS question!

OK if i buy a EVGA 9600gt 512mb 256bit how many FPS do you guy's think ill get playing cod4 and cod5 on medium-high setting's with a res of 1024X768?

CPU:Amd Athlon 64 3400+
RAM:1gb (probably add another gig)
PSU:250w Hewlett Packard (upgrading soon)
Window's XP

You might be better off with this PSU, it is much higher quality, and slightly cheaper with the sale on it.

Kind of hard to guess the FPS... but if you are only playing at 1024x768 res I'd expect you to get a pretty decent and playable FPS, you should be happy. I would look into upgrading that CPU/Mobo sometime or another if I was you though. Also, do add another gig of RAM (unless you plan on upgrading your cpu/mobo, assuming you are using DDR-400 ram, because you will not be able to transfer that over to your new system), that will also help you out.

Agree on the PSU. Get the corsair unit. It won't blow up.

Your CPU may be too weak for even a 9600GT, but I'm not sure. At 1024x768, your game will mostly depend on your old Athlon 64 anyway. If you don't have it overclocked, I suggest you do it.

Ok TYVM and i would upgrade my CPU but i have a 939 socket (ffs its old/sucks i know ) but i simply cant find a better 939 socket CPU. And i am new to computer hardware so i dont know how to overclock and i don't want my PC to die on me since i share it with my sister :S

Overclocking isn't too difficult, especially on the Athlons of that day. Check out the overclocking section here. There are some tutorials there, and everyone will be more than happy to help you.

Ok ill deffenetly take a look at the overclocking guide XD but i keep hearing from a lot of ppl that overclocking make's Ur PC die faster? is that true?

Overclocking puts more strain on the hardware and will make ICs decay faster, yes. "Die faster" though, is relative. I have PCs that are over 15 years old that are overclocked and still run great.

umm by any chance do u have an HP pc? u said ur psu was hp so i'm guessing that u have one. if u do, u cannot overclock hp computers

I think most OEMs put on a BIOS that won't allow you to OC, of course you could do it through a windows utility, or possibly a BIOS flash. Not sure about the latter.
